Several years ago I started collecting retro computers with the intention of setting up a living computer museum in Latrobe Valley, Gippsland.
An area that has long established roots, in history, community and culture with numerous museums and historical societies, but none for computers.
I welcome you to Gippsland Retro Computers, Consoles and Handhelds.
Situated in Newborough, Gippsland in rural Victoria about 120kms South East of Melbourne.
There are over 100 computers, console and handhelds with peripherals, games, manuals, books and other merchandise in the collection.
Some were sold nationally from companies such as Dick Smith, Commodore, Apple etc. Whilst other items are European, Japanese or American and more than a few unique items that were never sold in Australia.
Click here to view a general list of the systems from the collection.
Another aspect to the museum is the participation of members and a place to start grassroots computer clubs.
Do any of these things appeal to you: youtuber / podcaster; maker / electronic repair; events / social media; print / website design; librarian / historian.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of any good organisation. I am looking for people that can help volunteer their time in whatever capacity they can.
There are several items in the collection, both working and non working, that have been donated by individuals.
Every item that is donated is doing to a great cause and will contribute to the preservation of computer history for the next generation.
Not everyone can donate their devices as times can be tough. If you think you have something that can contribute to the museum and are looking to sell, I am open to reasonable offers.
Please get in contact if you wish to donate or have something to offer. These can be collected from you if you are unable to travel.
No events are planned, at least not until a more permanent public space can be arranged.
Until a more permanent public location can be found, private sessions can be arranged by appointment and invitation only.
Note due to the size of the floor space, only one or two visitors can be accompanied at a time.
Please fill out the below contact form with your details and what systems you are interested in.
